Regal Cinemas
, one of the largest movie theater chains in the nation, is temporarily closing all of its theaters as the film industry postpones major film releases because of the pandemic.

Effective Thursday, Oct. 8, Regal’s more than 500 cinema locations in the United States will close until further notice.

Locally, shuttered theaters will include 88 screens total among five cinemas: Regal Naples 4DX & IMAX in North Naples, Regal Coconut Point in Estero, Regal Gulf Coast & IMAX in Fort Myers, Regal Belltower and ScreenX in South Fort Myers and Regal Town Center in Port Charlotte.

Regal has not provided a reopening date. Other local movie theaters plan to continue operating.
